The latest addition to this price Range from Realme is the Realme 5i a budget oriented smartphone. It’s a downgrade over the Realme 5. R Realme 5i is the 4th model of Realme 5 series. Was there a real need of the Realme 5i from Realme? Lets find out this in this Full Review.
I am going to divide the Review between the Pro’s and Con’s of the Device.

First let us take a look at the Pro’s of the device.

PRO’S

Design and Build Quality

Realme 5i shares the same design as of the Realme 5 and Realme 5s. Towards the front of the phone it has a water drop notch. The front glass of the phone has  Gorilla glass 3 protection. Realme 5i weight’s about 195 gram which makes it a little bulky. It has a 8.95 mm thickness. Towards back of the phone Realme has gone with new sunrise design pattern rather than the old diamond cut pattern. Realme has claimed that it has added an anti fingerprint layer at back which helps preventing smudges. just like the Realme 5 and Realme 5s the edges of Realme 5i is also curved. Fingerprint scanner is located towards the back of the phone and we found that it is located a bit bit high so that we have to reach for it. There is also the quad camera setup towards the back of the phone. Towards the right hand side  of the phone the power button is present and the volume rockers are present in the left hand side of the phone. The SIM tray is present on the left hand side of the phone just above the volume rockers. The phone has support for Two nano sims and micro Sd card slot. Sadly the Realme 5i comes with micro usb slot rather than the Usb Type C. The phone has a a single firing loud speaker towards the bottom of the Phone which is quite loud. Realme 5i is available in two colour Green and blue.

Display

Realme 5i has a 6.52 inch Super Amoled display with a water drop notch which is very small. Due to the water drop display the phone provide’s a screen to body ratio of 83.2%. Coming to pixel per inch density the phone provide’s only 269 pixels per inch. The viewing angles are decent. Coming to the visibility in outdoor lights it was quite bright enough. The resolution is locked at Hd+.

Performance

Realme 5i is powered by the Same Snapdragon 665 chispet which is present on the Realme 5 and Realme 5s. The Phone has 8 cores( 4 Cortex-A73 core clocked at 2.2 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 core clocked at 1.8 GHz. The storage used here is Emmc 5.1 storage. There is support for bluetooth 5, Wifi 802.11 ac and dual 4g with dual Volte.
Considering Realme 5 and 5s Realme 5i offers more Ram for the same price. Realme 5i is capable of doing multitask without killing the background tasks. The AnTuTu Score’s for the Realme 5i is 1,70,480 points which is decent for a budget Phone. In Geekbench single core and multi core test the Phone managed score’ s of 309 and 1345 respectively.  Graphical benchmark GFXBench  the phone scored 12 fps in cat chase scene and 49 Fps in T-Rex scene. As pubg is the No:1 priority game on the market we played it on the Realme 5i also. The default graphic settings set by the phone was ‘low’ graphic set to smooth and frame rate medium. The gameplay experience was quite smooth at this setting.During the 20 min of our testing the phone didn’t had much heat up issues.  Day to day task also seem to run finely without any lag or stutter. So performance wise for the price Realme 5i has done a decent job.

Back camera

Realme 5i has a quad camera setup. A primary sensor of 12 MP f/1.8 aperture and 1.25 micron pixel paired with a 8MP f/2.25 aperture  ultrawide lens and a 2 MP f/2.4 aperture depth and dedicated macro lens.
Realme camera app doesn’t have a lot of changes in its Ui. Has shortcuts for Hdr enabling and toggling to the wide angle lens. It also has night scape mode and potrait mode.
The focusing of Realme 5i is quick. During daylight the photos taken have decent dynamic range. There is evident amount of details for the day- light photography which is evident even while zooming the photos. Coming to the wide angle camera it provides wider view but compromise in the detail level of the picture. Edges of the photos shoot with wide angle appeared to be slightly stretched. Close up shots with the Realme 5i managed good details for a budget phone.
The macro lens allows you to take close up shots and come closer to the object. However the macro lens is just 2MP in the Realme 5i.  Coming to the potrait shots Realme 5i doesn’t provide us the offer to adjust the background blur during taking the image. Also the potrait shots against light was not that great.  Realme 5i could shoot video’s at 4k in 30 fps however stabilization is only available for 1080p video’s.

Battery Life

Battery capacity of the Realme 5i is 5000 mah. The battery life of Realme 5i is excellent and similar to Realme 5 and 5s. Even during my extensive test the Phone lasted for a day and a half. The Phone gave me a screen on time  of 6 -7 hrs roughly during my daily usage.
Now let’s take a look at the Con’s of the Device.

CON’S

Front Camera

Realme 5i has a 8MP f/2.0 aperture front facing camera. The beauty mode is turned in by default during taking selfies with the Realme 5i but we are provided with option to turn it off. The image quality was average and the background were overexposed while talking selfie in daylight. The low light performance was strictly below average. The potrait mode shots edge detection was not up to the mark.

10W charger

The charger that Realme has provided with this smartphone is the basic 10 W charger when others phone at this price is coming with fast charger inside the box. The 10 W charger in the Realme 5i charges it very slowly and it often take 2-3 hrs for full charging.

Low light photography

The low light camera performance was very poor with both the front camera and back camera. The images shot had a lot grains and the detail level was also bad. The night mode seems to help us capture more brightness but the grains were still there.

Software

Realme 5i runs Android 9 out of the box. The phone comes up with its own custom ui named colour Os. Also the phone contains lot of bloatware application pre installed out which some are only uninstallable. There is also many spammy notification due to this bloatware which affects the user interface.

Conclusion

Realme 5i is a device with similar features of Realme 5 at much aggressive price with compromise in camera performance. If you want a smartphone with good performance at low price the  you should considering buying yourself a Realme 5i.
