After a long two years Poco has launched their second Smartphone named Poco X2. It’s not an upgrade over the Poco F1 and the X2 doesn’t also come with flagship killer specs. Poco now is an independent brand and now they have decided to give competition to Xiaomi itself. The Poco X2 is a budget device. The Phone has been launched by Poco to compete with Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme X2 at the same Price range. Infact it is clear that poco X2 is aiming the budget segment also after being an independent brand.
Poco X2 in the simpler word’ s in nothing but a name change over the Redmi k30 indian varient. Both the phones have exactly same specs expect that K30 support NFC. Redmi k30 is priced high considering Poco X2.
Poco X2 base varient has 6gb of ram and 64 gb of internal storage and is priced at 15,999 and the highest varient nof 8gb ram and 256 gn internal storage cost 19,999.
Poco X2 runs android 10 out of the box under custom skin Miui. Miui has many unique features. Poco phone have their own version of Miui.
• Poco X2 is Powered by the Snapdragon 730 G
• 27 W fast charger
• 64 MP primary Camera
I am going to divide this full review between the Pro’ s and Con’ s of this device.
First let us take a look at Pro’s of the Device.
Design & Build Quality
Poco X2 has almost the same design we saw on the Redmi k30. Like the Poco F1 the back of the phone is not made out of plastic rather this time Poco has choosen glass back. The back glass is also given the Gorilla glass 5 protection. Talking about the back of the Phone we have a circular bump towards back of the Phone which contains the camera lens. The edges of the bump are given a smooth finish. There is a quad camera setup in the circular bump.
It’s does seems to make the phone a little bit out of standards in 2020 but the finishes given to the edge is pretty good. There is also a Poco branding towards the bottom of the back. The glass used here is not slippery and give us a comfortable grip over the Device. The phone also has a punch hole display. It isn’t too noticable but you might get disturbed while playing video’s and stuff’s. The power button is situated on the right hand side of the device which also act as a Fingerprint scanner. Even though it’s not the fast and accurate scanner I have used it works pretty much all the time.
The volume button’s are placed on top of the power button. It’s a bit tough to reach the volume button with single hand usage. The infrared is also used with this Phone like many other Xiaomi device. It’s a good addition to the Smartphone from Poco.
The sim tray is present towards the left hand side of the smartphone. The tray has hybrid solution that is you can use either two sim cards or one sim card and a a micro Sd card. The 3.5 mm headphone jack, Usb Type C and the singke firing loud speaker are present towards the bottom of the phone. Poco X2 is available in three colours ‘Atlantis Blue’ , ‘Matrix Purple’, ‘Phoenix Red’.
Poco X2 has a 6.68 inch IPS LCD display. The main highlight of the display is the refresh rate of 120 Hz. Due to the 120 Hz refresh rate the performance of the Phone seemed to be quite smooth. It had a drastic impact on making the Ui feel smooth and responsive. The phone comes with a screen to body ratio of 88.8% and has a pixel per inch density of 386. The phone also has support for HDR 10+ display. Display seems to be quite bright outdoor’s and the viewing angles was also great.
Poco X2 is Powered by the Snapdragon 730 G which is based on 7nm. The gpu used here is Adreno 618. The cores of Cpu are 2×2.2 GHz kryo 470 gold and 6×1.8 Ghz kryo 470 Silver. In AnTuTu Poco X2 have a score of 2,80,912 which is quite remarkable for a budget device and in geekbench the phone scored 548 for single core and 1,759 for multi core. Multitasking was never an issue for the device. It ran almost everything I threw at it. Poco X2 also come’s with liquid cooling which helps the Phone in maintaining the temperature. We also played pubg and other high graphic’s game.
PUBG graphic was default set to HD. The game ran smoothly in Hd and had no issue with rendering. There was no stutter nor lag while playing even with high graphics. Other games like asphalt 9 too was extremely smooth with high graphics.
Poco X2 has a battery capacity of 4500 mah. It could last easily for a day. There was no issue when it comes to battery backup. Also the screen on time was around 5-7 hrs varies depending upon your usage. Also the charger provided inside the box is a 25 W fast charger which charges the phone quickly from 0 to 100.
Poco X2 has increased drastically in terms of camera from the Poco F1. It has a quad-camera setup towards the back with a Primary sensor of 64 MP f/1.9 paired with a 8 MP f/2.2 ultrawide, 2 MP f/2.4 depthe sensor and a 2 MP f/2.4 dedicated macro lens. The image were quite good with very good exposure and also vibrant in colours. Talking about the portrait mode it also took fine shot with great depth. The edge detection was also fine. The shot with wide-angle has poor detail and quality. Macro shots was also not that great. Talking about the low light photography it was impressive there was minimal grains and also the detailing level was impressive. The dedicated night mode doesn’t have a great effect on night light photo’s. Poco X2 could shoot videos at 4k in 30 fps but we only have stability upto 1080 p.
Poco X2 has a dual front camera. A primary sensor of 20 MP f/2.2 paired with a 2 MP f/2.4 depth sensor. The front camera isn’t impressive as we thought. There is option to control the field of depth of the portrait shot before taking the picture. The edge detection was fine but the image background is overblown most of the time. Front camera could shoot videos at 1080 p in 30 fps.
Now let’s take a look at the Con’s of the device.
Poco X2 shift with many pre installed Bloatware apps. It had Bloatware such as If browser, Sharechat, Facebook, Mi pay etc . Out all the Bloatware only some are
Like all the other android Phone’s running Miui Poco also has the Frequently occuring ads problem. You can see ads almost everywhere from notification to the settings. Xiaomi has not yet officially released a Ads off button in setting’s.
Poor Low light videography
The videos shooting during low light had no stability what’s so ever. There was no details and the video was very much shaky. Also there were grains in the videos.
Over all Poco X2 has launched a solid budget smartphone. It has all the quality to be the no.1 smartphone at this price range. If you want a seamless gaming experience and great display with pretty good camera surely you can buy the Poco X2. Infact Poco X2 is best buy under 17,000.
